an open letter to Dairy Queen

Dear Dairy Queen,
Today, I came across a new location in Northport, Alabama. It brought me back to memories I haven’t returned to in years. For that, I would like to say thank you. Thank you for creating a treat SO delicious that it literally ran memories in my head like a movie. Thank you for taking one of the most basic pieces of the food world and perfecting it to the point where when it touches my tongue, I can literally smell 1998. Every day after dance class from the time I was about 4 until the time I was 14, I would go to the gas station across the street from my dance studio. There is where the memories were made. I would order the most simple thing on the menu. A small chocolate dip cone. And that simple chocolate dip cone became a time machine. I remembered the taste of a perfectly round lollipop I would get immediately after eating my dip cone from the gas station. What were my parents thinking feeding me an ice cream cone followed by a lollipop… That’s besides the point.. Back to the dip cone. I just wanted to say thank you for the special time traveling treat. Thank you for reminding me I love cherry lollipops. Thank you for putting vanilla soft serve ice cream in a cake cone and covering it with a thin layer of chocolate, sweet chocolate. Thank you for making the world a better place. Thank you Dairy Queen.

Until next time,
Fast Foodie
