last weekend, i had the great pleasure of attending the “feast of st. mark” italian festival in birmingham. after being invited, i did some research, but no amount of research prepared me for the incredible day i had.
the weather had been pretty unstable throughout west alabama last week, so i was curious to see whether or not it would hold out. turns out it did and didn’t….
when we first arrived, it was beautiful. ten minutes after arriving, we got stuck under a tent in one of the HEAVIEST down pours I’ve ever experienced (and i grew up in florida). the grass turned to mud and everyone was soaked. but this only make our experience BETTER.
once the rain subsided, we all ventured out to see the clearest sky I’ve ever seen. what a beautiful time to be enjoying the outdoors! we explored the “cultural tent” which housed cookie and cannoli stations, local italian goods, and various other local italian crafters. there was a gelato truck and a pizza truck on site as well as live music.
the adults weren’t the only ones entertained though.. there were plenty of activities for the little ones that included the whole family including bocce ball, face painting, and a photo booth.
i think my favorite part of the day was looking up to see multiple drones flying around videotaping the event. i can’t wait to see that video footage. until then, here is a photo recap of the event!
*i brought a photographer with me, but with the rain and weather, we were not able to capture the highest quality photos.
finally, i have a dear friend who lost her mother recently. when i got to the feast, i was reading in the booklet that she had worked as the secretary for the church and was one of the founders of the feast a few years ago. they dedicated the festival to her this year. so in tandem with them, this post is dedicated to ginger scalisi.
you can read more about the festival here
until next time, cheers!
