GET FIT AND ENJOY!
10 Tips to a good Workout
Need a little extra gym motivation? Here are a few tips:
- Have a gym partner!
It always helps to have someone who is just as determined & motivated as you to workout with. You & your gym partner can get motivation from each other to better yourself.
- Great music!
All I need is a good playlist & I’ll be set! Having upbeat music I enjoy is the key to having a great workout for me.
- Set Goals!
It’s a huge help to set short term & long term goals. Be sure to set achievable goals for yourself. I always have multiple goals I am focusing on. Short term goals for a specific workout may consist of reaching a certain burned calorie count, or maybe mastering a particular exercise (sometimes that takes more than one workout). One of my biggest long term goals is to take my fitness obsession to the next level by motivating/inspiring more people to live a healthy, fit life. Winning the 1st Phorm Athlete Search is a huge long term goal for me, however; I know there are so many great athletes & fitness fanatics in the contest!
- Keep track of your progress.
Noticing progress & differences in your body is usually enough of a motivation to keep going & give 110%.
- Have a rest day.
Not everyone believes in rest days. I am a big fan of listening to your body and taking a rest day when you feel you could use it most. Sometimes I have to take a rest day due to my work schedule but if I can I workout every day possible until my body seems to need a day off. Listen to your body!
Don’t be afraid to add a little spice to your workout. Get some variety in it. Add some of your favorite exercises into your workouts. Some that you truly enjoy. Adding variety is a great way to avoid getting bored & to keep yourself on your A-game.
- Make a workout plan.
Many people find it helpful to write their workouts out before they head to the gym (or where ever you may exercise!) I personally type it out on my phone & look over my plan a few times before the gym. This helps me remember my workout routine & allows me to only stop a couple times to check out what exercise I may be forgetting. I always try to keep my heart rate up & keep my workout flowing smooth!
- Patience is a Virtue.
Be sure to remember that you won’t see progress immediately after your workout (I still like to check just in case ;)). Don’t convince yourself that you didn’t have a good enough workout. The only bad workout is the one you didn’t have. Stay focused & stay positive!
Be sure to stretch enough for your muscles to prepare for your workout. Stretching is a key factor when it comes to avoiding injuries. It helps increase your range of motion & flexibility. It also helps decrease muscle soreness by increase blood & nutrient flow to muscles.
- Reinforce Yourself!
You worked hard! Give yourself something in return. At the end of my workouts I reinforce myself with a delicious homemade protein smoothie. I switch it up but strawberry/banana with vanilla protein & almond milk is my favorite! Protein smoothies help rebuild your muscles after a tough workout. Throughout your workout you will create very small tears in your muscles known as “micro tears.” Protein shakes enter the body’s digestive system quickly & begin to aid the healing process of these tears.
Until Next Time, Cheers!
